The future of financial instruments for sustainable energy

Representatives of the National Trust EcoFund team took part in the final conference of the "BeSmart" project. It was held on 24.04.2024 in the Chiflika resort. The focus of the event was on the future development of financial instruments for energy efficiency and sustainable energy. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the Agency for Sustainable Energy Development, the World Bank, the National Trust EcoFund, the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Sources Fund (EERF), the FLAG Fund, as well as representatives of public and local authorities, industry organizations, associations and unions, and citizens with interests in the field of sustainable energy.

The forum provided an opportunity for open dialogue and exchange of ideas on the future of financial instruments for sustainable energy. In addition to sharing some of the main recommendations for the development of the financial system, the conference also presented new financial instruments, including of the World Bank for financing energy efficiency in the residential building stock and of the Flag Fund – FLAG – Financial Instrument for the Transition to Clean Energy (FLAG FICET). Presentations were also made by the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Sources Fund and the National Eco-Trust Fund.

Of key importance was the presentation by Ms. K. Georgieva (NTEF), which focused on the need for financing institutions to use clear criteria/indicators for effective energy management when making decisions on financial support for municipal sites. In the context of the presentation, the NTEF project for creating a model of municipal energy management services and the professional training of personnel in them was presented.
